The Role

As a Senior Data Specialist, you will play a pivotal role in enhancing the evolution, reliability, and scalability of our modern data infrastructure across analytics, reporting, and business intelligence. This position involves architecting, building, and maintaining robust and automated data pipelines, orchestrating workflows, integrating diverse data sources, and collaborating with various stakeholders to deliver secure, compliant, and high-quality data solutions. You will be responsible for managing the full data lifecycle, from developing resilient ETL/ELT pipelines to automating reporting, optimizing technical debt, and enabling cutting-edge analytics. Our Senior Data Specialists act as operational stewards and technical mentors, driving improvements in system maturity, cost efficiency, automation, and collaborative practices.

The Team

Our Data Engineering team focuses on developing and optimizing scalable data pipelines and cloud infrastructure to facilitate secure, automated reporting and analytics. We work closely with product, finance, legal, and partnerships teams to deliver reliable integrations and self-serve solutions that empower business insights and enhance operational efficiency. The team is also responsible for managing technical incidents, data governance, ongoing improvements, and supporting mentorship across cross-functional teams.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Expert-level proficiency in Snowflake, dbt, and Python for data modeling, transformation, pipeline development, and advanced analytics.
  • Advanced SQL skills for complex querying, large-scale data model design, and database optimization.
  • Demonstrated experience in architecting, building, testing, deploying, and maintaining scalable, automated ETL/ELT pipelines using tools like Prefect and Airflow.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud-based data warehouses and lakes, including Snowflake, AWS (S3, Redshift), and Google Cloud, with an emphasis on source integration and performance optimization.
  • A strong grasp of secure external data flows utilizing SFTP and APIs, ensuring reliability and compliance.
  • Proficiency in version control (Git, GitHub) and structured workflow management (Jira) to maintain code review processes and operational transparency.
  • Proven ability to automate and simplify complex manual tasks, building reusable pipeline components that minimize operational overhead.
  • Experience in orchestrating workflows, including custom scheduling, alerting, dependency management, and error resolution.
  • Demonstrated dependability, adaptability, and a collaborative engineering approach, thriving in dynamic and uncertain environments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Extensive hands-on experience in dynamic, fast-paced environments, particularly startups or rapid-growth settings, delivering technical solutions amid changing priorities.
  • A background in supporting cross-functional teams such as business intelligence, analytics, and data science through large-scale integrations and advanced analytics tools.
  • Familiarity with batch and event-driven ingestion paradigms, including building near-real-time data pipelines using Snowflake, dbt, and Python.
  • Experience in automating complex operational, financial, or compliance tasks within cloud data environments.
  • Exposure to audit, privacy, and compliance frameworks (SOC, HIPAA, GDPR, ISO, SOX), particularly regarding data governance and secure access controls.
  • Experience working in regulated industries, especially healthcare, healthtech, or SaaS environments.

Compensation

Carrot offers a comprehensive Total Rewards package designed to support our employees in all aspects of their lives, including health and wellness benefits, retirement savings plans, short- and long-term incentives, parental leave, family-forming assistance, and competitive compensation. The starting base salary for this position is expected to range from $155,000.00 - $195,000.00. Actual compensation may vary based on your confirmed job-related skills and experience.
