The City of Moreno Valley is hiring for a Part-Time Office Assistant position.
Applications will be accepted until the first 100 are received or until February 17, 2026, whichever comes first.
Recruitment may be used to establish an eligibility list for future vacancies.
THE OPPORTUNITY
The Public Works Department is seeking a detail-oriented and customer-focused Part-Time Office Assistant to support the Public Works Division. This role is vital in ensuring smooth daily operations, providing administrative assistance, and serving as a welcoming presence for both internal staff and the public. Under general supervision, the Office Assistant will handle incoming calls, greet visitors, provide general information, and perform routine office support functions, including preparing and filing documents. This position offers an opportunity to collaborate with a team dedicated to delivering essential infrastructure services to the Moreno Valley community.
Note: This is an at-will, seasonal, part-time position without benefits. Positions may end at any time, and there is no guarantee of hours. Work hours for part-time positions are scheduled based on operational need and typically do not exceed 1,000 hours in a fiscal year from July 1 through June 30, unless further authorized. Incumbents may be required to work a flexible schedule, including some evenings, holidays, weekends, and split shifts.

The candidate should have a proactive approach to administrative tasks, the ability to multitask efficiently, and a willingness to assist with various office functions. Prior experience in office administration, particularly in a municipal or public sector setting, is highly desirable. Additionally, experience in a public works or construction environment is preferred. Proficiency in Spanish is also a valuable asset, enabling effective communication in a diverse community.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Office Assistants are responsible for answering and referring all incoming calls on the City's general telephone lines, for greeting visitors to the City's main offices, providing them with general information and directions, and for performing routine office support functions.
Part-time Office Assistant is distinguished from Senior Office Assistant in that incumbents in the latter class perform more difficult and specialized clerical and office support functions for a specific department.
Minimum And Desirable Qualifications
A typical way of obtaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities outlined above is graduation from high school or G.E.D. equivalent; one year of increasingly responsible office administrative or secretarial experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Experience in construction, public works, or other municipal settings is preferred, as is fluency in Spanish.

Applicants possessing the MOST DESIRABLE qualifications at each level, based on a screening of required application materials, including the completed Supplemental Questionnaire, will be invited to continue in the selection process.
