Custodial Building Supervisor

La Sierra University is searching for a candidate who will be responsible for maintaining a clean, safe and comfortable living/learning environment in the men’s residence hall, Sierra

Towers, as the Custodial Building Supervisor. Must schedule, train, supervise, and work alongside student custodians as well as perform custodial and light

maintenance duties.

Duties

  • Custodial Operations
  • Maintain overall cleanliness of the residence hall, including all common areas and immediate exterior surroundings.
  • Perform custodial and light maintenance tasks not completed or assigned to student employees.
  • Ensure proper floor care for carpet, tile, and cement surfaces.
  • Inspect restrooms and offices regularly to ensure cleanliness, functionality, and proper condition.
  • Establish and implement cleaning procedures and corrective actions as needed.

Supervision & Training

  • Schedule, train, supervise, and work alongside student custodial employees.
  • Evaluate student employees in collaboration with the Deans.
  • Provide guidance, feedback, and support to ensure quality performance.

Light Maintenance & Repairs

  • Perform minor maintenance tasks, including but not limited to:
  • Replacing light bulbs, vacuum bags, belts, window screens, and shower heads
  • Painting wall scratches and performing light wall repairs
  • Moving furniture and equipment
  • Oiling squeaky hinges
  • Rehanging or replacing mirrors, towel racks/rods, bulletin boards, cork boards, paper towel dispensers, and toilet seat cover dispensers
  • Replacing or rehanging room closet curtains
  • Replacing cabinetry in rooms
  • Changing sink aerators
  • Steam-cleaning carpet stains
  • Maintain janitorial closets, including:
  • Inspecting for cleanliness and proper maintenance
  • Restocking supplies
  • Changing dust mops
  • Inspecting vacuum cleaners for maintenance and repair needs

Facilities & Inventory Management

  • Deliver supplies, materials, and equipment to offices and departments as needed.
  • Maintain cleaning equipment and ensure the proper operation of custodial tools, including fueling the golf cart.
  • Communicate with Physical Plant to order supplies and request repairs.
  • Submit, track, and follow up on work orders; reconcile work orders submitted by residents.

Coordination & Communication

  • Meet with Deans to discuss building needs, staffing, and operational procedures.
  • Assist Deans with emergency and disaster preparedness planning.
  • Implement corrective measures for facility deficiencies and ensure timely resolution.

Additional Duties

  • Move furniture, equipment, and supplies as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Dean.

Qualifications

Education/Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or three to five years related experience and/or training; or

equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Ability

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure

manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or

employees of organization.

Math Ability

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and

decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability

to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills

Preferred but not required.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This job supervises student workers.

Wage Range: $18.28 - $19.50
