CLASSIFICATION: Exempt
HOURS: Full-time
Position Summary: The Executive Director is responsible for overseeing the organization’s achievement of its mission and financial objectives. Leadership, communications, community relations, and building partnerships are key responsibilities of this position. The Executive Director will report directly to the Board President and Board of Directors.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
1. Assume overall responsibility for the functioning of the agency and for implementing the agency’s goals.
2. Develop, evaluate and maintain quality programs aimed at serving runaway, throwaway and homeless youth.
3. Carry out, as developed in conjunction with the Board, the goals and objectives, program priorities, policies and procedures of the Operation SafeHouse.
4. Responsible for overseeing of selection, supervision, evaluation and termination of staff within the established policies and procedures of the agency. Makes work assignments and is responsible for team building and staff development. Responsible for department heads who supervise line and counseling staff.
5. Prepare budget and maintaining fiscal records and reports as required by funding sources and the Board.
6. Research grant, resources, write and implement grants as needed.
7. Work closely with the Board of Directors in fund development and in conjunction with the Board, maintain ongoing relationships with funding sources.
8. Work closely with the public, with law enforcement and with public and private agencies and organizations to further the objectives of the organization and to coordinate services. Serve as spokesperson for the agency.
9. Develop and maintain working relationships with other organizations involved in youth development at the state and local level in order to influence public policy and remain up to date on legislation potential funding and other pertinent information.
10. Travel between sites in Riverside area and Thousand Palms.
11. Other duties as assigned.
Skills and Qualifications
- Master's degree in Human Services or related field.
- 4 years senior management experience required. Must include supervision, personnel, financial management, and fund development.
- Strong communication and writing skills.
- Ability to relate to diverse client, volunteer, Board, staff and donor populations.
- Basic computer literacy.
- Ability to take initiative and responsibility.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends.
- Able to pass/clear background screening.
- Current driver license and clean driving record.
Work environment
- Indoor work facility
- Moderate/low noise level
Physical Demands
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position
- Considerable time is spent at a desk using a computer, printer, keyboard etc.
- Occasional light work that includes moving objects up to 20 pounds occasionally.
- The person in this position needs to frequently move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, and check-in on clients.
- Travel between sites in Riverside and Thousand Palms locations.
