Special Ed. Instructional Assistant/1:1 Aide - The Media Lab
Salary: $20/hour
Schedule: Part-Time, 18 hours/week, Monday,Tuesday, and Friday; 9am-3pm
The Media Lab is an innovative film and media day program for adults with high-functioning developmental disabilities. Our goal is to teach vocational and life skills, through the art of film and media production. Our team strives to create a safe and supportive environment for our students to learn, grow, and express themselves through film.
We are looking for a patient and kind individual to work 1:1 with an existing student. The goal for the 1:1 aide is to help the student build confidence and learn self-advocacy skills. The applicant must be extremely patient, creative in building rapport with shy individuals, and comfortable with helping students participate in film/broadcast productions. (There is no requirement for prior experience in film production for this position.)
The 1:1 aide will also
- Collect data daily to determine student’s level of independence in designated skills;
- Complete daily notes for student;
- Provide support and redirection on a daily basis;
- Maintain confidential student files;
- Ensure on-going communication with planning team;
- Participate in and assist student in studio productions, classes, projects, meetings and emergency drills;
- Accompany student on community outings;
- ensure student’s rights and dignity are maintained in the provision of services;
- provide guidance and mentorship to students on a daily basis
Must have at least an AA in psychology, sociology, child development or another closely related field from an accredited school or university OR must currently be enrolled in one of these programs at an accredited college or university.
Must have supervisory experience of at least 2 years and must pass background investigation that includes FBI/DOJ fingerprint check.
Experience working with people with developmental disabilities is preferred.
Pay: $20.00 - $23.00 per hour
