Day Porter (Part-Time)- North-West College/Riverside

Position Summary

The Day Porter is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors throughout the campus. This role provides continuous custodial support during operating hours, responding to immediate cleaning needs, monitoring high-traffic areas, and assisting with campus events to ensure facilities remain presentable and functional at all times.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain cleanliness of classrooms, offices, hallways, restrooms, common areas, and entryways.
  • Monitor and service high-traffic areas throughout the day.
  • Spot-clean walls, doors, glass, and other surfaces as needed.
  • Sweep, mop, vacuum, and dust assigned areas.
  • Empty trash and recycling containers; replace liners as required.
  • Restock restroom supplies (soap, paper towels, tissue) and ensure sanitation standards are met.

Safety & Compliance

  • Follow all workplace health and safety regulations.
  • Properly handle and store cleaning chemicals and equipment.
  • Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Adhere to college policies and custodial procedures.

Working Conditions

  • Indoor work environment across multiple campus buildings.
  • Frequent standing, walking, lifting, and bending.
  • Exposure to cleaning chemicals and equipment.
  • Occasional schedule adjustments for special events.

Minimum Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous custodial, janitorial, or facilities experience preferred.
  • Experience in an educational or institutional setting is an asset.

Skills & Abilities

  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Physical ability to stand, walk, bend, lift (up to 50 lbs), and perform repetitive tasks.
  • Basic knowledge of cleaning equipment and safe chemical handling.
